Nurse Jackie ended its sixth season on Sunday night, and it was renewed for Season 7.
According to reports earlier this year, the Edie Falco-led comedy on Showtime will come back.
However, the show is slated to release a few cast members.
“In the twilight of season six, Peter asked to be released from his contract to pursue new creative challenges. Nothing will eclipse the incredible contribution he made to the success of Nurse Jackie since the dawn of the show,” showrunner Clyde Phillips told E! in a statement.
Showtime said Nurse Jackie has averaged 3.1 million viewers across all platforms.
Production will resume for the seventh season in New York City later in 2014.
“Showtime renewed Nurse Jackie, a co-production with Lionsgate TV, for its sixth season in June. Season five averaged 3.13 million weekly viewers -- up 14 percent year-over-year. Phillips boarded the series last season, with season seven marking his third as showrunner after he replaced co-creators Linda Wallem and Liz Brixius. Production will resume later this season,” reads a report from The Hollywood Reporter in March.
