Anyone who dined at a Sydney Harbour waterfront restaurant on the weekend has been told to get tested for COVID-19, as the NSW government races to trace the source of three infections.
A person with the virus attended the five-star Ripples restaurant at Milsons Point, adjacent to Luna Park, on Oct. 3 between 8 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.
Contact tracing is underway but NSW Health says the details of a small number of walk-in diners on the night weren’t recorded.
All diners at the restaurant on Saturday night are now considered close contacts and must get tested and isolate for 14 days.
NSW Health has also issued a warning for anyone who was at the Mazda Artarmon repair centre on Sydney’s north shore between 7.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. on Oct. 2 to monitor for coronavirus symptoms.
NSW is on alert after recording 12 days of no cases of community transmission because the three new infections could upend plans for Queensland to fully reopen its border to its southern neighbour on Nov. 1.
The state has 48 hours to determine the cases, which were detected overnight on Oct. 6, are locally acquired.
“It’s not a surprise,” the premier told reporters on Oct. 7.
“We’re always going to have cases pop up because we’re in a pandemic ... we’re managing it well, but we will never be out of the woods until there’s a vaccine.”
None of the three cases—a Camden woman, a Parramatta woman and a Wollondilly man—are linked to each other so far, and authorities are racing to trace their contacts.
The new cases were announced on Oct. 7 hours after Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said if NSW uncovered a single case of community transmission the border countdown would reset to 28 days.
NSW Health on Oct. 7 issued an alert for who attended an 8:15 a.m. pilates class at Fitness First in Carlingford on Oct. 3 to get tested and isolate for 14 days.
Public health alerts have also been issued for Narellan Kmart, Penrith Homemaker Centre, Penrith Guzman y Gomez, Penrith Home Co, Westfield Parramatta and Castle Towers Shopping Centre between Oct. 2 and 5.
NSW Health said no new locally acquired cases were recorded in the 24 hours to 8 p.m. on Oct. 6, but three returned travellers in hotel quarantine were diagnosed.
