A Bald Head Island ferry accident near North Carolina left several people injured on Tuesday.

The ferry ran aground off Battery Island, reported Starnewsonline.com, adding that none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

The ferry was departing Deep Point Marina to Bald Head Island when the accident took place.

Joyce Fulton, director of communications for Bald Head Island Limited, told the website that no people were thrown overboard, disputing reports that were circulated earlier .

“That is absolutely not accurate,” she said.

WBTV, citing Bald Head Limited CEO Chad Paul, reported that the Adventure ferry hit a sand bar.

The Coast Guard is on the scene, according to the station.

A witness to the accident told WBTV that he saw a woman being airlifted to the hospital.

According to WRAL, there were about a dozen people on board.
