Wisconsin pulled off a most impressive 31–18 upset against the newly anointed No. 1 college football team in the nation, Ohio State, after last week’s Alabama upset.

Right off the bat, the Wisconsin Badgers took the lead when David Gilreath took the opening kick off down the field for a touchdown. On the Badgers ensuing drive, they pounded the ball on the ground and scored on another running play with John Clay from 14 yards out making the score quickly 14–0.

After the first half the Badgers were ahead by 18 points, 21–3. Clay had put another touchdown up on the board for Wisconsin.

Ohio State came out of the halftime break fired up and scored within the first four minutes. Running back Dan Herron brought the ball over the goal line from 13 yards out.

Herron put another touchdown up at 11:38 in the fourth quarter and the score was 21–18. But that’s as close as Ohio State came to winning the game.

It hasn’t been since 1981 that the Badgers knocked off a No. 1 team, the last one being Bo Schembechler’s Michigan Wolverines.

Ohio State wasn’t the only team to be upset in college footballs top 10. Texas knocked off No. 5 Nebraska 20–13. At the beginning of the season Texas was presumed to be one of the BCS’s top finishing teams. Texas lost to UCLA and Oklahoma in the two previous games, putting the BCS championship on the backburner.

Next on the upset list is South Carolina who was ranked No. 10 in the country, but suffered a loss to unranked Kentucky 31–28. Surprisingly enough, this is the same South Carolina team that knocked Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide, who were in the top spot last week.

Kentucky fought a good battle with the lead switch hands a couple of times.

Having had all these upsets there was a game played that may have been overlooked between Auburn (7) and Arkansas (12). It was one that will go down in NCAA history books.

Auburn and Arkansas managed to score the most points in regulation time in a regular season game with a final score of 65–43 in favor of Auburn.

New No. 1

For the third week in a row, college football has a new No. 1. According to the computerized BCS standings, Oklahoma has jumped into the top spot while Oregon, Boise State, Auburn, and TCU round out the top five respectively.

In the AP top 25, Oregon is placed in the No. 1 position with Boise State in the No. 2 spot, and Oklahoma is ranked No. 3. Ever since the inception of the BCS standings, there has always been controversy on how the system runs.

“At this point it just speaks to the quality of schedule we’ve played, and while I appreciate the caliber of those teams, our focus has to be on the games we have remaining,” said Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops to USA Today.

“Were not talking or thinking about anything but playing Missouri.”

This weekend’s games will provide proving ground for the two top teams Oregon and Oklahoma. Oklahoma will be up against No. 11 Missouri. Both are undefeated.

Oregon will play UCLA who’s not ranked in the top 25, but had an impressive victory this season over currently ranked No. 19 Texas.
