Two nursing home employees who were fired for participating in a labor union campaign will get their jobs back. Lincoln Park Care Center in Lincoln Park, New Jersey has been ordered by a federal judge to offer the former employees their positions until the case can be resolved by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The NLRB is an independent federal agency that advocates for worker rights.
According to a statement from the NLRB, their Newark regional office got a complaint in October about unfair labor practices at the nursing home. The problems included firing two union supporters and giving a final warning to a third supporter. Supervisors were also accused of making "coercive statements to employees to deter their union support." The nursing home has approximately 400 employees who are housekeepers and nursing assistants. A hearing is set for December 13. Lincoln Park Care Center could not be reached for comment by press time.
