Nissan cars run solely on gasoline and the Japanese automaker announced this week that they will start selling their first hybrid in Japan next month.  The company is attempting to enter the hybrid market dominated by fellow automakers Honda and Toyota, the Associated Press reported this week.

The company is rolling out the Infiniti M, which gets double the gas mileage of the gas-powered model.

In Japan, the vehicle is called the Fuga, and was shown off at the company’s headquarters in Yokohama on Tuesday, AP reported.

The car will be sold in Japan on Nov. 2 for $72,000, or 5.8 million yen. The car will be sold in the US at the beginning of next year.

During testing in Japan, the vehicle mileage was about 45 miles per gallon.

“This premium car delivers both the highest quality mileage and the highest quality drive,” Nissan Chief Operating Officer Toshiyuki Shiga told AP.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Fuga will feature an onboard security program to prevent motorists from driving the wrong way on the road.

Nissan told the Journal that the company’s Wrong-Way Alert Program is the first of its kind in the world.
