MTV planned early in December to put Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, the Jersey Shore star, in a ball that will drop from the network’s Times Square headquarters as part of the New Year’s Eve celebration.

However, after receiving objection from Times Square Alliance, which organizes the world-famous celebration at Times Square, the Snooki ball drop has been moved to Seaside Heights, N.J., the original setting for hit reality show Jersey Shore, according to Reuters.

“We love our Times Square home and while we’re disappointed there won’t be a Snooki ball drop there, she cannot be denied!” MTV said in a statement quoted by Reuters. “So we’re taking a road trip to the place where it all began, Seaside Heights, and droppin' it all there.”

MTV decided to move the drop after the alliance said in a statement as quoted by Reuters that the request to have a Snooki drop “came too late and was too impractical to fit in to our outdoor events.”

For a century, the Times Square celebration has included a lighted ball that is lowered at midnight, marking the new year. MTV said Snooki merely wanted to become a new part of the tradition.

Snooki’s drop will be part of MTV’s New Year’s Bash 2011, which starts live at 10:30 p.m. EST on Dec. 31. The bash will also include rapper Flo Rida, comedian Whitney Cummings, and Jersey Shore cast member Pauly D, according to MTV.

The celebration at Times Square begins at 6 p.m. and will feature entertainers including Backstreet Boys, New Kids On The Block, and Ke$ha.
