Nicole Kurowski, a physical education teacher and cheerleading coach at Tulpehocken High in Bernville, Pa., was arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual misconduct with a student. Some reports spelled her name
Pennsylvania State Police arrested Kurowski, 27, on Wednesday after she surrendered, according to NBC Philadelphia. She is accused of being in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old.
A police investigation was carried out after officials got a tip about the relationship.
Police said they recovered hundreds of text messages between Kurowksi and the student, who was not identified.
Kurowski was charged with institutional sexual assault and was released on $25,000 bond, reported CBS.
She worked at the high school for the past two years as a physical education teacher.
“She was an employee for us for two years as a physical education teacher and cheerleading coach,” Ed Albert, the district superintendent, told CBS.
He added: “I think whenever you are in education and you are trying to work with kids and you see something like this happen it is disheartening,” reported WFMZ.
Police said the two went out of their way to hide the relationship.
“I was so shocked. I cannot believe that something like this would be so close in my backyard. I have kids that go to the Tulpehocken School District and I never thought it would happen here,” Bern Township parent Isabel Kampe told WFMZ-TV.
