Actress Nicole Kidman wants to adopt a child in the wake of her father’s death a few months ago, according to a report.

Kidman, according to a report from the National Enquirer, seeks to adopt a son as a “tribute” to father Antony Kidman, 75.

“It sent Nicole into an emotional tailspin,” a friend told the tabloid. “She’s been beside herself with grief and barely able to function. Simple tasks like getting out of bed and eating have
been difficult.”

Kidman has two children, Sunday, 6, and Faith, 3. She’s married to country star Keith Urban.

She also talked about not having children at her age.

“I hope every month that I’m pregnant, but I never am. I’m 47, it won’t happen,” she said.

Her father had asked for a grandson before his death.

“Up until the end, Nicole’s dad begged her for a grandson,” added the source. “For the longest time Nicole felt like a failure for not being able to fulfill that wish, but now she’s going to make it happen. Keith is on board because he knows how much family means to Nicole. So they’re planning on a domestic adoption.”

She’s had experience with adopting children with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

“Nicole and Keith are open to adopting a mixed-race child, but don’t want a drawn-out process,” the source told the Enquirer. “They’re hoping the little boy, who they want to name Antony after Nicole’s dad, is home with them by mid-2015.”

Other reports have said Urban has been highly supportive of Kidman since her father died.

“I’m incredibly fortunate that I’ve managed to find an extraordinary man in Keith. He has been such a rock for me, through everything, particularly the last few weeks. He’s just been divine; so full of love and support, as have my children, as has my sister and my mum, we’ve been through a lot. We’ve really had to lean on each other and support each other and hold each other close,” Kidman said, per JustJared.com.

She added: “But having small children and having Keith has been just wonderful. To hold onto Sunday and Faith, I just feel so glad that I was able to have them. It took a long time to get there but I have a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old and this really, really great guy. I’m lucky.”
