“I think it's [Rabbit Hole] hopeful, I really do, because it's about people coming together through pain, and I think that's an important thing for us to see, that people can fuse that way.”
The movie tells the story of a couple trying to cope with the accidental death of their four-year-old son. Kidman told the Associated Press she found it quite easy to play the role of a bereaved mother.
"But I suppose my compassion, my ability to just—I can weep when I hear the stories that people tell me of what they're going through," she said. "So my heart is open to that because of this film, because I've kind of put my toe in the water, in a way."
Directed by John Cameron Mitchell, the film has so far been nominated for Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Critic's Choice awards. It also landed a spot on TIME Magazine's Top Ten Movies of the Year.
Rabbit Hole is adapted by David Lindsay-Abaire from his play that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2007. The movie is now playing in select theaters.
