Tori Foles, the wife of Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles, announced the couple had miscarried their son in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday, May 29.

In the heartfelt post, Tori Foles shared she was just 15 weeks pregnant with their second child when she suddenly went into labor on Sunday morning, and “knew something was wrong.”

The 28-year-old, who has a daughter with Nick Foles named Lily, said she had been feeling unwell for several days, and thought she had “a virus of some sort” before she was admitted to hospital.

“Not long after we learned we had miscarried our baby boy,” she continued. “To fully labor and deliver and even see our baby boy was a pretty devastating process.”

She later learned she had contracted an infection of pneumonia in the blood, and said she and her family will take some time to recover emotionally from this “traumatic loss.”

“The emotions go back and forth from immense and overwhelming sadness, confusion and anger to a firm belief that God has this fully in his hands and will use this for good,” she said.

“We cannot always understand or explain, but we know that is true.”

Tori was treated with antibiotics in hospital, and the couple are now back home to allow time to recover from their tragic loss, both physical and emotional, she said.

“We have so much compassion and sensitivity to those who have gone through a miscarriage at any point and in any circumstance. We know they all happen very differently.”

“Also a heartfelt thank you to Baptist Beaches hospital staff in maternity. What an incredible team of doctors and nurses that took care of us the last 4 days,” she added.

Nick Foles updated his fans on Twitter with the news after he took time off from the Jaguars’ voluntary off-season training session this week to take care of his wife. During a news conference last month, he announced he and Tori were expecting their second child.

“Tori has written a beautiful heartfelt post explaining what we have gone through this last week. We are grateful for all the love, support and prayers,” he tweeted on May 29, adding a link to his wife’s Instagram page.

His head coach, Doug Marrone, had earlier announced that he had taken time off on Tuesday due to personal reasons.

He told reporters, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Nick and his family. He knows, like anything else, that we’re here for him.”

It is unclear when the championship quarterback will return to training.

Last year, when the 30-year-old was quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, he helped lead the team to make history with their first Super Bowl victory.

Throughout the game, he completed 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns and was named Super Bowl MVP.

His wife and daughter were at the Super Bowl 2018 cheering him on, and before the game, he gave an emotional answer when he was asked what Lily’s arrival meant to him.

“When I think about this journey and everything, I get home and I, uh … I get to see her. I get to see my wife. I see her and my wife, just in her face and in her mannerisms, that’s what it’s about,” he said.

Speaking about Lily, he said, “I know that every time I step on the field, every single thing I do, there’s going to be some days she looks and wants to know who her daddy was and what he did.”
