A longtime merchandise manager, Nick Alexander of the U.K., may in the Paris terrorist attacks on Friday night that left more than 120 people dead and scores more injured. A woman close to him said he was shot at the Bataclan theater.
Alexander was working at the Bataclan theater, where a hostage situation unfolded. Gunmen loyal to ISIS slaughtered 100 fans at a concert before blowing themselves up with explosives, it was reported.
The Daily Mail said there were fears that Alexander, from Colchester, Essex, may have been a casualty in the attack. A friend of Alexander told the publication how she tried to save his life.
The U.K. Foreign Office confirmed that one Briton was killed in the attack. However, one government source told the paper there were fears of “a handful of British casualties.”
The theater was hosting the Eagles of Death Metal when the attacks unfolded.
Alexander’s girlfriend, Polina Buckley, said he was working at the theater and she had not heard from him since, reported The Independent.
“Someone please help me find my boyfriend Nick Alexander. Merch guy for EODM,” she said via Twitter.
Helen Wilson, an American expat who was wounded in both her legs, told the Telegraph how she attempted to keep Alexander alive as they were on the floor of the concert hall. “Nick was shot in front of me,” Wilson, 49, told the paper. “We heard a couple of noises outside and people started running into the club. We didn’t know what was going on.”
“Then maybe five, six guys came in with machine guns and shotguns and just started shooting people. It was mayhem,” she said. “When anyone started running they would shoot them down. So we got down on the floor. I was afraid whenever I heard a step behind me... they machine-gunned everybody.
“Nick was in front of me when we were lying on the ground and somebody moved and they just turned round and started shooting us.
“His back was to me and I couldn’t see what happened and I tried to keep him talking and then I tried to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and they [the gunmen] were just sort of in the shadows and they would shoot if anyone said anything.
“Then he couldn’t breathe anymore and I held him in my arms and told him I loved him. He was the love of my life.”
Wilson was taken to Saint-Antoine hospital in Paris. When emergency workers took her out of the building, she lost sight of Alexander.
