The NFL announced Tuesday that they will send memos to teams informing each team that trainers will be stationed at games to monitor players for concussions, according to a report on the league’s website.
The NFL-employed trainers will be placed in the press box and will assist the medical staff of either team.
The proposition had evidently been on the table for some time but was appropriately sped up following Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy’s concussion December 8 against the Steelers. McCoy’s helmet was hit hard on an illegal tackle by Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison. McCoy was sent in just two plays later but was later diagnosed with a concussion. The young signal-caller hasn’t practiced in the 12 days since.
The situation prompted both the league and the players’ association to meet with the Browns to discuss their handling of the situation.
