The Mountain View, Calif.-based search engine and tech company made the announcement on its front page, and said that the “Pure Google” phone would be the first one in the world to run Android 2.3, or “Gingerbread.”
The Nexus S boasts a sleek contour design, and resembles Droid phones with its placement of its screen, speakers, and four key buttons on its bottom panel.
The smartphone will have a 1 GHz “Hummingbird” processor and contain 16GB of memory, and Google called it “one of the fastest phones on the market.”
The Nexus S also allows for multi-tasking and NFC (Near Field Communication) support, which allows phones that are near each other to transfer data between them wirelessly.
Its 4-inch screen is smaller than the Droid X’s huge 4.3-inch, but it’s unique in that it’s contoured with its shell. Google says that the screen is up to “1.5x [brighter] than conventional LCD displays” and won’t glare as much when used outside.
The Samsung-Google phone has a 5MP rear-facing HD camera and camcorder, as well as a front-facing VGA camera, which are useful with its VoIP and SIP internet calling feature.
Additionally, the phone comes unlocked, so you can use it on any GSM carrier.
