NEW YORK—New York City is the site of a gathering of top scientific minds in the next few days. Top researchers, Nobel laureates, artists and performers, researchers and scientists are in town for the World Science Festival through June 14.

The festival, in its second year, was co-founded by Columbia University professor of physics and mathematics Brian Greene. Greene is also author of “The Elegant Universe.” Emmy Award-winning journalist and producer Tracy Day, is also a co-founder of the festival.

The festival includes five days of debate, film, theater, and aims to “shift the public’s perception of science as an esoteric and intimidating academic subject, by highlighting its relevance to everyday life, revealing the wondrous insights it provides, and examining its critical role in meeting the grand challenges facing the world,” according to a press release.

Event organizers have some “signature events” within their wide variety on offer. They’ll include a debate on the nature of reality with Brian Greene, Nobel Laureate David Gross, cosmologist Andrei Linde, and philosopher Nick Bostrom on June 13 at 8:00 p.m. On June 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. the World Science Festival Street Fair will take place in Washington Square Park. The fair will exhibit interactive exhibits, experiments, games, and shows.
