NEW YORK—The final day of the Electric Zoo festival on Randall’s Island was cancelled after two people died and four others fell critically ill.

“Definitive causes of death have not yet been determined, however, both appear to have involved the drug MDMA (ecstasy, or molly),” reads an official statement from the city.

The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation recommended the closure and the festival’s organizers complied.

The festival is in its fifth year and features more than 100 music acts,  including Tiesto, Avicii, Krewella, and David Guetta. Last year’s festival drew crowds of up to 110,000 people.

“The founders of Electric Zoo send our deepest condolences to the families of the two people who passed away this weekend,” reads a condolence posted on the event’s website. “Because there is nothing more important to us than our patrons, we have decided in consultation with the New York City Parks Department that there will be no show today.”

Refund details are forthcoming, according to the official Twitter account for the festival.
