NEW YORK—Federal prosecutors have filed criminal charges accusing a New York company of illegally importing and selling to the U.S. military surveillance equipment made in China with known cybersecurity risks.

In a criminal complaint unsealed on Nov. 7, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said that Aventura Technologies, located in Commack, New York, was illegally selling the equipment to the U.S. government and private individuals, and has pocketed $88 million from the fraudulent activities.
