The federal government has unveiled an improved guide for new immigrants that offers information on everything from Canada’s relationship with the British monarchy and the illegality of marriage fraud to driving in snowy conditions and restaurant tipping.
Twice as long as its predecessor and more comprehensive, the 146-page booklet is peppered with colour photographs and personal testimonies, and features practical information and advice to help newly arrived immigrants navigate life in Canada.
“The new edition of ‘Welcome to Canada’ shows our commitment to helping the citizens of tomorrow experience a smoother transition into their new community and into the Canadian workforce,” Kenny said in a statement.
This is the first time the guide has been revamped since it was initially introduced in 1997. It is available online in PDF or E-book format, as well as in hard copy through settlement service providers.
Kenney also announced the Living in Canada Tool, a new online interactive tool that helps newcomers find and access language and settlement services quickly upon arrival.
