New Orleans Saints backup running back and special teams player Daniel Lasco suffered what appears to be a serious injury during a play on Sunday afternoon against the Buffalo Bills.

Lasco, 25, was taken from the field by ambulance. He was covering a kickoff after the Saints scored a touchdown.

In the incident, he slammed his helmet (and head) into Bills kick returner Brandon Tate’s thigh. Players on the Saints team then began waving for assistance, according to live footage of the game.

He hit Tate’s leg at full speed with his head pointed down, it appears.

Medical personnel came in with a stretcher and an ambulance rolled into New Era Stadium while Lasco was stabilized.

He raised his right arm and gave the “thumbs-up” sign while he was inside the ambulance.

According to the NFL “RedZone’s” Scott Hansen, Lasco was taken to a local hospital. He suffered a “spinal injury,” and he has “feeling in his extremities,” according to the report.

Saints team doctor Michael Hartman is attending to him there, ABC reported.
