New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and his wife are under quarantine in China after arriving on a flight on Friday with a man showing flu symptoms, according to news reports.

Chinese authorities said they may have been exposed to the H1N1 virus, otherwise known as the swine flu.

H1N1 virus victims show the same symptoms as a seasonal flu, including fever, cough, runny nose, and body aches.

The Chinese regime forced 70 healthy resident Mexicans and travelers into quarantine in early May, including an official at the Mexican Consulate, after a man on one flight was found to have the flu. Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa said the regime overreacted and called the quarantines discriminatory.

American and Canadian students in China have also been quarantined.

Mayor Nagin flew to Shanghai on Friday for an economic development trip. He has been quarantined in the city with his wife and a member of his security detail. A statement from his office said he has been treated well and is symptom-free.
