San Mateo County’s tax collector’s office has adopted a new interactive voice response system that will allow callers to review and pay their property taxes more efficiently, county officials said.

The new technology will free up staff to do other administrative duties and also includes a Spanish language option. The system requires a new phone number at (866) 220-0308 and callers to the tax collector’s main line at (650) 363-4142 will be directed to call the new number.

“Our new IVR system will provide a better service experience for the residents of San Mateo County, and the introduction of a toll-free number will help to ensure that all of our customers are able to reach us from wherever they may be located,” Tax Collector Sandie Arnott said in a statement.

Notifications about the new service will be included in annual secured tax bills mailed to property owners in September.
