If you’re looking for a new gadget but you’re not sure exactly what to buy, there are plenty of options. With an open mind or a lack of experience when it comes to gadgets, you might not be sure exactly what you’re looking for. In order to avoid getting the wrong thing or misunderstanding certain features, here are the main types of gadgets you can buy and the features of each.

1. Smartphone

Smartphones are becoming even more advanced, and the price range is very wide, which means that you'll be able to afford one whether your budget is large or small. From cheaper models such as an Android 4.4 smartphone or the latest Samsung and Apple products, you can decide exactly how much money you can afford to spend. You should buy a smartphone for the following reasons. Even if you use Apple products, getting used to an Android isn’t hard especially when you can look up Android how tos on helpful websites or via a search engine.

  • Calling and texting - both of these can be done on smartphones, which makes it easy to contact friends, family and emergency services if anything goes wrong while you’re in or out of the home.
  • You can easily play games wherever you are, since they can be downloaded from the App Store or the Google Play Store. This is great if you regularly make long journeys or find yourself getting bored as you commute to work or school each day.
  • Watching videos is made easy with smartphones, especially if you buy one which has a large display. If your main objective is to watch movies or play games, consider buying a phone with the largest and best quality display possible.
  • Hundreds of applications can be downloaded onto your smartphone, whether you need a metronome for musical work, a diary to keep a log of your events or a weather app to help you keep updated about what’s coming next.

2. Tablet

A tablet is very much like a smartphone, only you can expect to pay more to get a budget tablet due to these being larger in size. The problem for some people is that you cannot call or text on a tablet the same way you can on a smartphone. You can, however, use Skype or other messaging apps if you want to keep in touch with other people who have tablets. Here are some of the great features of owning a tablet.

  • Bigger screen than a smartphone, making it even better for browsing the internet, reading e-books and watching videos.
  • Very portable - most tablets can slip into a purse or small bag, with some even fitting comfortable into a large coat pocket.
  • You can easily connect your tablet to a Wifi connection, and with so many hotspots available now, you can browse the internet and connect to your friends wherever you are.

3. Computer

Computers come in two different forms; you can either buy a portable computer or one which you cannot carry around with you. Of course, the type you choose will depend on your individual preferences and needs. However, the common features are as follows:

  • Play games, watch videos and participate in surveys which may only be available to those who have Flash Player (not available to download onto tablets or smartphones).
  • Connect to a stable internet connection, especially if you have a computer which is fixed at home.
  • Very fast speeds and plenty of storage space - much more storage space can be found on computers than on tablets or smartphones.
  • Much larger display, allowing you to watch movies as easily as you can from your television screen.

4. Television

When compared to laptops, computers, smartphones and tablets, there doesn’t seem to be a great deal that you can do on the average television. However, if you have enough cash to spare, you can definitely buy a great TV that will enable you to do much more than just watching your favourite television shows and watching movies. With a good television, you will be able to do the following:

  • Play games by linking it to an Xbox or other device. The big screen will give you a fantastic display, making all your favourite games even more enjoyable that they were before.
  • Link your camera or smartphone to the television and show your friends and family the great photographs from your trip in full HD quality.
