Amelia Earhart, a news anchor from Denver, seeks to re-create the flight of the original Amelia Earhart, who disappeared over the Pacific Ocean in 1937.
Amelia Rose Earhart wants to circumnavigate the Earth but she will be accompanied by co-pilot Patrick Carter. She will travel around 28,000 miles and make 14 stops, according to a press release from her.
“My passion for flight and adventure has driven me to explore new experiences I never would have imagined possible as a child,” she said in the release. “Hard work, persistence and great role models have enabled me to fly outside the lines and achieve my dreams. Aviation plays an integral role in my life and I hope to share some of that joy with others through this adventure.”
Earhart, who started flight training in 2004, will depart from Oakland, Calif. in 2014. She will pilot a Pilatus PC-12 NG single-engine aircraft.
She is the founder of the Fly With Amelia Foundation, which gives flight scholarships to young women.
Earhart says that she is a distant relative to the original Amelia Earhart, according to UPI.
“Amelia and Patrick’s love of flight, yearning for adventure and dedication to safety and education make them great ambassadors for the Pilatus brand,” Thomas Bosshard, the president and CEO for Pilatus Business Aircraft, said in the release. “The Pilatus PC-12 NG’s unique combination of reliability, speed, range and performance make it the perfect aircraft to complete this demanding flight.”
