NDP Ask for Drug Shortage Plan

The NDP want the government to put a plan in place to immediately address the current drug shortage. A motion to that effect was discussed Wednesday and received Tory support.

If enacted, the plan advocated for in the motion would see the government cooperate with the provinces and industry to develop a nationwide strategy to deal with shortages, and anticipate future shortages.

There has been a critical shortage of many drugs due to a fire at Sandoz Canada, the main manufacturer of generic drugs in Canada, though the problem was pre-existing.
