NBA Player Death Threats: Patrick Beverley Threatened Over Westbrook Injury
NBA player death threats: Houston Rockets rookie point guard Patrick Beverley has reportedly received death threats after Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook’s injury earlier this week.
Ball boy Mitchell Brown said on Twitter that “Patrick Beverly (sic), I’m coming to kill you,” reported the Houston Chronicle. Brown described himself as a ball boy for the Thunder.
He sent another tweet with the same message, using Beverley’s Twitter handle.
Toyota Center director of security Bryant Savage told the Chronicle: “We definitely took precautions,” adding that “we definitely upped everything” following the incident.
Beverley was criticized for making an errant play that led to Westbrook’s season-ending injury.
“It’s just an unfortunate play,” Thunder forward Kevin Durant said. “I hope he’s not hanging his head off of it. It’s just one of those freak accidents.”
Brown apologized for making the purported threat, reported The Associated Press.
He also said that he was hacked in another posting.
The Thunder, in a statement, said the team does “not condone his comments. He works game nights on a voluntary basis and the matter will be handled internally.”
