[xtypo_dropcap]A[/xtypo_dropcap] natural gas pipeline in Cleburne, Texas, exploded late Monday June 7, killing three people when workers hit an underground line, said city officials.

Six people have been taken to hospitals by air and ground transportation.

Officials also said that at least 10 people are missing at this time. A large orange fire stream continues to spew from the pipeline, located in Hood County, about 50 miles southwest of Dallas in Johnson County.

Local Dallas and Fort Worth television network WFAA was on site to report on the incident. Nearby resident Laura Harlin said the explosion made a “rumbling” noise, “almost like a tornado. It shook our entire house.”

The underground pipeline is 36 inches in diameter. A gas company is reportedly attempting to turn off the gas line.

“There’s not a whole lot they can do, until they get that line turned off. A lot is going to depend on where the main valves are that control that section of line. Obviously, what’s in the line is going to have to burn off before they can get it shut off. So it may be late into this evening when they get the fire controlled,” Cleburne City Manager Chester Nolen told WFAA Dallas television.
