Taliban insurgents are preparing for the big NATO offensive in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan.

The U.S. Marines operation set to launch within days was announced in advance to force the Taliban fighters into accepting a peace deal. Local villagers from Marjah city, where the new strike is aimed, have been reportedly leaving in recent days in fear of the forthcoming battle. Increased Taliban activities were seen in the area.

“They are bringing in people and weapons. We know there is going to be a big fight,” a man from Marjah was quoted by Reuters agency. NATO and its allies are planning to train Afghan forces, so they will be able to maintain security in the country.
