A D.C. Police spokeswoman told the Washington Post that the police received a report of a man on fire at 7th and Independence.
The man was taken to the hospital with “life threatening injuries.”
The call came in at 4:24 p.m.
Witnesses told multiple reporters that a man set himself on fire, but the fire was put out.
Photos show him being taken away from the scene with a helicopter.
Justin Sink of The Hill said that his mom was near the man. She said that several other men put it out with his shirts.
7th Street between Constitution Avenue NW and Independence Avenue SW is closed, D.C. police said via Twitter, because of “an injured citizen.”
