
Tinkler, formerly an electrician, now has a fortune worth $610 million, according to BRW magazine.
The 34-year-old has near doubled his wealth since raising $475 million to buy a Queensland coal mine. He then made an estimated $400 million after investing the money in the $1.2 billion Aston Resources float.
Second place went to London-based hedge fund manager Greg Coffey ($406 million), while another London hedge fund manager, Hillton Nathanson, took third place with $395 million, Yahoo Finance reported.
In fourth place is Sydney property developer and CEO of Precision Group, Shaun Bonett ($360 million).
Also in Sydney, Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar achieved joint fifth place with a combined fortune of $314 million from the technology duo's 16 per cent stake in software company Atlassian worth $US60 million.
At $61 million, Nicole Patterson topped the list of only seven women featuring in this year's Young Rich list. Patterson is joint owner of insurance builder/repairer company Pattersons Insurerbuild with husband Stuart.
