U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was attacked in the early hours of Oct. 28 during a home invasion, authorities said.

Paul Pelosi, 82, was assaulted during a break-in at the home in San Francisco, California, according to the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP).

A San Francisco Police Department spokesperson confirmed an 82-year-old male was attacked during an early morning break-in at a home in the 2600 block of Broadway.

Officers responded at approximately 2:27 a.m., the spokesperson told The Epoch Times via email.

Paul Pelosi was “violently assaulted” during the break-in, Nancy Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement.

Paul Pelosi was rushed to a hospital, where he is being treated and was expected to make a full recovery.

Nancy Pelosi was not in San Francisco at the time. She was in Washington with her protective detail, the USCP said.

The assailant was taken into custody and police are investigating the motivation for the crimes, authorities said. The suspect has not been identified.

“The motivation for the attack is still under investigation,” the Capitol Police said.

The Capitol Police said it is assisting police in San Francisco and FBI agents with a joint investigation into the break-in.

“Special Agents with the USCP’s California Field Office quickly arrived on scene, while a team of investigators from the Department’s Threat Assessment Section was simultaneously dispatched from the East Coast to assist the FBI and the San Francisco Police with a joint investigation,” the agency said.

Nancy Pelosi and her family “are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” Hammill said.

San Francisco, like many U.S. cities, has been dealing with a spike in crime in recent years.

Nancy Pelosi has served in Congress since 1987.

Paul Pelosi is a businessman and venture capitalist.

He pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence in August. He reached a plea agreement that saw him avoid additional jail time. He had served four days in jail.
