N.M. church stabbing: Authorities said that four people were stabbed at a church in Albuquerque , N.M. on Sunday.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—Police said a 24-year-old man ran up to the choir area of a Albuquerque Catholic church and stabbed four people.

The man approached the choir at St. Jude Thaddeus Church and yelled “Fake preacher!” as he jumped over several pews, reported KOAT-TV.

The Albuquerque Police Department said he then stabbed several choir members. Authorities said the victims did not sustain life-threatening injuries and were treated at an area hospital.

The man was subdued by several people until police arrived on the scene and he was arrested.

“I pray for all who have been harmed, their families, the parishioners and that nothing like this will ever happen again,” Archbishop of Santa Fe Michael Sheehan said.

The alleged stabber has not yet been identified and a motive has not been found.

“As to the motive regarding the multiple stabbing, this has not yet been determined,” police spokesman Rob Gibbs told the ABQ Journal.

Gibbs says the man is now being interviewed by police and is expected to face felony charges.

It’s not yet known whether he has an attorney.

Gibbs says investigators don’t yet know the motive for the stabbings, whether the man had ties to the victims or whether he regularly attended the church.

The stabbings occurred as the choir had just begun its closing hymns.
