South Korea: After growing up on the streets, center founder feeds hungry seniors

In the basement of an old, unnamed building in central Seoul, about 70 seniors line up for free lunch. A man wearing a green apron brings meal to them one by one. This has been the daily routine for Kim Jong-eun, 78, president of Hangil Volunteer Community, for the past 10 years. Kim, now a garment firm owner, was a street beggar himself following his blind mother in Buyeo, South Chungcheong Province.  “I still vividly remember the days my mom and I suffered from hunger on the streets. Have you ever experienced it? Nothing is more important than food when you are starving to death,” he said in an interview with The Korea Herald. “I needed no other reason when I started this free meal service.”  …

France: Twelve French delicacies Anglos can’t stomach

Even the most adventurous of Anglos will have grimaced at some point at the sight or thought of some of the dishes served up in French restaurants. Here’s a list of twelve French ‘delicacies’ we Anglos might find disgusting, while French chef Iman Bogen tells us why we should embrace them.

Even after many years in France, there are some French dishes that Anglos just wouldn’t touch with a fork the length of a barge pole.

Bangladesh: Palm growers frustrated as fruits remain unsold

Palm growers in the district are frustrated as the ripe fruits have remained unsold in absence of any arrangement for producing edible oil from it. Another organisation Palli Unnayan Sangstha also collaborated with the programme. The trees in many palm gardens are now adorned with fruits. But many farmers are now uprooting their palm trees for using the land for other agricultural items as blocking of the lands for the last three years added with the cost of palm farming has already made them incur huge losses. …

Finland: Strong Alcohol Must Pass ‘Strength Test’ Under New Finnish Customs Rule
