Young had a 2–1 lead when the match started, but Murray quickly took command by taking the first five games and the first set. “I thought I was hitting the ball well from the back of the court. I would've liked to have served better,” he said after his match. “I thought I had good intensity from the start of the match and made it difficult for him to get any free points.”
Murray took the first two games of the second set, extending his match streak to seven games, before Young finally put together a good game for his first point of the day. Young started to get his swagger back and tied the set at two-all, but he fell apart again. After dropping the fifth game, he yelled to his coach, “I can’t hold it!” referring to his grip.
The third set had some great tennis, with long volleys and great net play. Young had a chance to get the set as it was tied 3-all, but he let his frustration get the better of him, and dropped the final three games including an ace on match point. Young said after the match, “I felt I didn't put my best foot forward and play the way I've been playing the whole time.”
Murray will face John Isner in a quarterfinal match tomorrow. Isner is in his first Grand Slam quarterfinal of his career. They have only played once, with Murray getting the victory.
