2012 US Open - Day 1

NEW YORK—Britain’s Olympic champion Andy Murray topped Russia’s Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 Monday in the first round of the US Open.

“I didn’t serve very well,” said Murray who got over just 45 of his 92 serves (49 percent) for the match. “Only lost seven games in three sets, so I must have done something well today.”

He certainly did. Murray was broken four times in the three-set match, but had nine breaks of his own. He especially jumped over Bogomolov Jr.’s second serve winning 21 of 26 times on the second try. He also put up 46 winners to 24 by Bogomolov Jr.

With the win, Murray now has a career record of 23-7 at the US Open with his best finish being runner-up in 2008.
