NEW YORK—Real-time bus tracking is coming to Manhattan in October according to a sign spotted by Twitter user @SecondAveSagas.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced on March 13 that Bus Time would arrive in Manhattan in 2013 and in Brooklyn and Queens by April 2014.

“Bus Time has proven extremely popular among bus riders on Staten Island and the Bronx – and I can tell you that because customers have come to me on buses in the Bronx and said we did a really great job on Bus Time,” Fernando Ferrer, MTA acting chairman, stated in the March press release.

The MTA will be making an announcement about the program early next week, according to Kevin Ortiz, an agency spokesman.

Real-time bus tracking was launched in Staten Island on Jan. 11, 2012, and in the Bronx in early November 2012. In addition, Bus Time is also available on the following routes: B61, B63, M34, M34A, M100 and Q50.

MTA bus time uses GPS technology to track buses in real time. It is available in desktop and mobile versions.
