NEW YORK—On the Fourth of July, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is not only about fewer trains—although there will be—but also about accommodating your holiday travels.

Subways, buses, and the Staten Island Railway will operate on a Saturday schedule. But, to accommodate commuters and firework goers, the C, L, 1, and 3 trains will operate more frequently.

Macy’s annual Fourth of July fireworks is best viewed on 12th Avenue from 14th Street to 59th Street from 9:20 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. The closest subway stations are:

72 St (Broadway): 1, 2, 3
59 St/Columbus Circle: A, C, D, 1
50 St (8 Av): C, E
42 St – Times Sq: 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, S
42 St (8 Av): A, C, E
34 St (8 Av): A, C, E
23 St (8 Av): C, E
14 St (8 Av): A, C, E, L

To accommodate New Yorkers going to the fireworks, MTA is running three inbound Metro-North trains ahead of the fireworks and four outbound trains after the fireworks in addition to the Sunday schedule trains.

Train service for New Yorkers returning to the city from Rye Playland is scheduled to run between 9 p.m. and 1:14 a.m. on Wednesday. Five additional inbound local trains from Rye to Grand Central Terminal are scheduled—the service is not in the printed timetable but is shown online at www.mta.info and posted at New Haven Line stations between Fordham and Rye.

No connection services are operating Wednesday.

The Long Island Rail Road is operating on a Sunday/holiday schedule Wednesday, but it does have additional afternoon Montauk Branch westbound trains from Montauk and the Hamptons. The regular Monday-only return train from Montauk and the Hamptons will run Thursday.

Staten Island Ferry service is suspended Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The last ferry leaves at 7:30 p.m. from both terminals.
