A Tennessee mother has been charged with child neglect after she forced her two children to walk three-and-a-half miles to school after they missed the school bus.
Police said that Lisa Marie Palmer, 32, had been driving ahead of her kids while they walked to school, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reports, keeping a distance of around 150 feet between them.
The ages of the children, both girls, are not disclosed.
“Temperatures were cold, and traffic was beginning to become heavy with citizens heading to work,” deputy Chris Ladd, who had stopped the mother, told the Free Press. “Mrs. Palmer was in no position to reach her children safely in the event of an emergency.”
Palmer had been stopped when her vehicle was 2 miles away from school.
