While a mother and daughter rode on a bicycle back to their house down a country road at night, a car slowly followed them—lighting their way.

The woman driving the car, named Gao Yuan, did not know the mother or the daughter. She recorded a video with her smartphone of her giving help to the two.

She titled the video: “Make Oneself Happy by Helping Others.” Afterwards, she posted the video on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter.

The video received both praise and likes after Gao shared it on social media.

Helping Others

The mother and daughter were riding home in the evening in Jiangsu Province, China. Gao saw them on the bicycle while she was driving by.

Gao slowed down, and started following the two. She kept a distance of about 30 feet behind the bicycle.

“At that time, I couldn’t help but slow down,” Gao told the Jiangsu Public News. “It was because we’re both women, and I felt that it’s not safe for her to ride on this unlit road.”

According to the Jiangsu News report, Gao is an actress. She said that she had seen the two riding on the road while she drove home after she had finished a performance.

Gao was concerned for their safety and decided to follow them, providing light from her car headlights.

Even though Gao was doing it out of kindness, she made sure to keep a safe distances from the mother, to not frighten her.

Gao drove at just over 5 miles per hour behind them. She followed them for an hour.

When the group finally reached a well lit area, Gao went on her way.

“Our mother taught us when we were young, when others needs help, when you can help others, you really should do your best to help them,” Gao said.
