A mother and son who said they have been singing together for only “a couple of weeks” had almost everyone in the crowd on the verge of tears.

They collaborated together to perform Great Big World’s single “Say Something” on Saturday night’s episode of Britain’s Got Talent.

“To perform onstage with my son is going to be one of the proudest moments of my life,” Mel, 44, said before her duet with her 15-year-old son, Jamie.

Within minutes into the performance, many people in the audience began to tear up.

The judges Alesha Dixon, David Walliams, Amanda Holden, all stood up and clapped for the moving performance while former American Idol judge Simon Cowell, sat down smiling from ear to ear.

Mel, who was standing next to her son, wiped away her tears as she awaited for the judges’ comments.

Cowell said that at first, he thought Mel—who sings in nursing homes for a living—would have overpowered Jamie’s voice. “You were very cool in the way that you let Jamie take the lead,” Cowell said. “You allowed it to be his song, but your harmonies actually improved the song, I thought.”

The original song, “Say Something” was placed at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2013 and received a 5X platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on December 11, 2015.
