Mosque won’t bury suspect: The aunt of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev said that a Boston-area mosque refused to hold a funeral for him.

U.S. authorities told the family that they can have the 26-year-old’s body.

An uncle went to a mosque with a request to hold a ceremony but the mosque declined his offer, reported NBC News, citing aunt Patimat Suleimanova.

She said she did not know the name of the mosque but it was one that the family went to on a regular basis.

“I would not be willing to do a funeral for him. This is a person who deliberately killed people. There is no room for him as a Muslim,” Imam Talal Eid of the Islamic Institute of Boston was quoted as saying by the Huffington Post a few days ago.

Tsarnaev was killed in a gun battle with police early on Friday morning. His brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, escaped but was captured nearly 24 hours later.

The Boston Herald reported that Tsarnaev’s family also got welfare from the state of Massachusetts as he was getting into radical Islamism.

ABC News reported that the Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services gave the information about the family’s welfare income but did not disclose how much they received.

An attorney for his wife, Katherine Russell, told ABC that she worked around 80 hours per week to support the family while Tsarnaev stayed at home.
