Two 12-year-old southeastern Wisconsin girls--Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier--charged with trying to stab their friend to death to please a mythological creature had struggled to decide who should do the deed.

According to a criminal complaint, the girls said they had been planning to kill their 12-year-old friend for months to please Slenderman, a fictional online character.

The complaint said they invited the girl to a sleepover Friday. They planned to tape her mouth shut, stab her in the neck, and run away to Slenderman’s mansion.

Instead, they attacked the girl in Waukesha on Saturday, handing the knife back and forth between them before one girl held the victim down and the other stabbed her 19 times.

One girl told detectives she regretted it. The other said she was sorry.

Now both girls face up to 65 years in prison as they will be charged as adults with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, reported the Journal Sentinel.

A bicyclist found the victim lying on the sidewalk and covered in blood, where the suspects had left her.

She was rushed to a hospital where she was in stable condition but still in danger of dying.

A sheriff’s deputy found Geyser and Weier hours later walking near I-94. The latter had a knife with a five-inch blade in her backpack.

Weier told police that she and Geyser found out about Slenderman online via a Wiki that’s devoted to horror stories, and that they wanted to prove that Slenderman exists and also prove their worth to him by killing the other girl.

“I believe it’s ending a life and I regret it,” Weier said when asked if she understood what it meant to kill someone.

“The bad part of me wanted her to die, the good part of me wanted her to live.”

Geyser, though, said that she didn’t feel remorse, calling it “weird.” She also said that “he would kill our family” if they didn’t do it. Asked who “he” was Geyser said she didn’t know but said that he watches her and can read minds and teleport.
