In montreal on Sunday, youth have barricaded themselves in the Rivière-des-Prairies (RDP) youth detention center and are refusing to come out.
Reports at first indicated that the youth were holding hostages but police now say that they aren’t.
The youth are armed with makeshift weapons, Montreal police spokesperson Simon Delorme told the Montreal Gazette.
“The residents have been contained to that one room and we have a negotiator on site,” said Montreal police spokesperson Simon Delorme. “There’s absolutely no danger to the population of Rivière-des-Prairies.”
Delome isn’t sure what sparked the situation. Police are attempting to negotiate with the youth.
