A young mum who was accused of leaving her baby and toddler in a flat for nine days without food or water, which caused one of them to starve to death, has reportedly shown “no remorse.”

Vladislava Trokhimchuk, 23, was also accused of deliberately torturing her 1-year-old son, Danill, and her 2-year-old daughter, Anna, so that she could post photos of them looking ill online to ask people for cash donations, according to a local newspaper Fakty, citing court evidence.

“It is most likely she wanted them to look unwell, pale and like be like skin and bones, so she locked them without food and water,” reported the local newspaper via Daily Mail.

As a result of the alleged abuse, Danill, starved to death, while Anna miraculously survived the alleged abuse that occurred in Kiev, Ukraine. At the time, Trokhimchuk is believed to have been meeting with her lover.

During trial on April 16, pictures of the flat where the children were kept were shown to the court. It was described as “pure Auschwitz” and “a torture room for children,” as further details about the alleged abuse were revealed.

The court heard that the two neglected infants ate wallpaper, plastic covers, and their own excrement to try to survive. Evidence of teeth marks were found on the wall, and they even attempted to escape under the door by tearing at the linoleum on the floor.

Trokhimchuk confessed in court saying, “I cannot find an excuse for myself. I always wanted the best for children,” according to Daily Mail.

“I dreamed they would study, live differently than I do, better. That they would have everything.

“I repent very much. I cannot understand what I did, or that God took my son from me and put me here [in custody].”

Speaking about the case, journalist Valentina Mudryk from 1+1 TV channel said Trokhimchu’s apparent remorse is not to be believed.

“She knew what she was doing when she left the children in that flat, according to the psychologist’s assessment,” Mudryk said, referring to the assessment that found Trokhimchuk was mentally fit to stand trial.

“But she feels no remorse, at all. If for the first two months after detention she cried and said she was feeling guilty, now she doesn’t answer judges questions about this. She looks calm. Outside the court, she laughs and chats to fellow inmates, who she leads. She does sport, dyes her hair, and lives there like she is in a holiday home,” the journalist continued.

“Recently I saw an engagement ring on her finger. When I asked who it is from, she just hid her hand and said nothing.”

One of the owners of the apartment Mikhail told the TSN, the channel’s news program, that he cannot find words to describe what he saw.

“It is pure Auschwitz, a torture room for children. Of course, we will for certain never live in this flat. We do not have moral force yet to start repairs there too,” he said, according to Daily Mail.

The other owner, Yulia, said it was “horrible to see all this.”

“Nobody heard them screaming… it is sinister. We are now entering his room for the first time. It is horrible to see all this. I see these children in my nightmares,” she said, according to the news station.

“Thank God the girl survived, but the boy did not, and for me this flat will be always associated with this horror.”

Vladislava’s lover, Anton Podchapko, is currently on the run, reports say.
The trial will continue, according to The Mirror.
