A mother and her 6-year-old daughter were both killed after their car crashed into a pond in Sanford, North Carolina.

Jessica Kuk, the driver as well as mother, over-corrected after running off the road before veering into the pond earlier this week, WRAL-TV reported.

Her daughter, Kristina Smith, died in the crash. Kuk died on Sunday, Aug. 6, due to her injuries.

According to a GoFundMe for the family, “Jessica was such a kindhearted person” and “Kristina was shy but full of life and had a smile to light up the room.”

Officials said speed was a factor in the crash, ABC11 reported.
