MLB tattoo injury: Outfielder Elvis Andrus got new ink work done this week, but the soreness of the tattoo forced him to miss the Cactus League game with the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.
Texas outfielder Elvis Andrus was sidelined from the Rangers’ lineup on Thursday because of an injury caused by his tattoo, it was reported.
Andrus’s tattoo is of his father, Emilio Andrus, who died when he was a child, according to ESPN. The design was apparently so complex that it caused soreness in his left arm, forcing him to miss a day of spring training. He apparently got the tattoo on his day off on Wednesday.
“Elvis has been working hard, and having another off day isn’t going to hurt him,” Rangers manager Ron Washington told the network. “He’ll be ready tomorrow.”
Reporter Gerry Fraley tweeted that the tattoo caused the Venezuelan player “‘sensitivity’ in his left biceps.” According to Yahoo Sports, Andrus got the words “In Loving Memory—Dad” above a picture of his father.
Andrus contributed much to the Rangers’ playoff push last season.
“He’s becoming a man and a mainstay and is acting like it,” Washington told ESPN. “He is getting better in all phases of his game.”
