New York Yankees v Kansas City Royals

Major League Baseball on Sunday announced the American and National League rosters for the 83rd All-Star Game, which takes place on July 10 at Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium.

Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton paced the stars with a record-setting 11,073,744 votes, shattering the former record of 7,454,753 set last year by Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista.

The New York Yankees will be well-represented, as usual, at this year’s event. Outfielder Curtis Granderson (third appearance), shortstop Derek Jeter (13th appearance), and second baseman Robinson Cano (third appearance) have been voted into the starting lineup. Pitcher C.C. Sabathia was selected as well, but will be unable to play because of an injury.

In the National League, San Francisco’s Buster Posey garnered more votes than anyone (7,621,370) and will start the game at catcher.

Two Mets have been selected for the mid-summer classic in pitcher R.A. Dickey (first appearance) and All-Star reserve third baseman David Wright (sixth appearance).
