North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a bill (pdf) on Sept. 10 that would have prohibited teachings in the K–12 school system that the measure calls contrary to “the equality and rights of all persons.”

“This legislature should be focused on supporting teachers, helping students recover lost learning, and investing in our public schools,” Cooper, a Democrat, said in a statement. “Instead, this bill pushes calculated, conspiracy-laden politics into public education.”
