Staff members for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) have independently authenticated emails from a laptop allegedly belonging to Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

Jordan announced the development on a Trump campaign conference call with reporters on Oct. 20. A source on the House Judiciary Committee confirmed that Jordan’s staff authenticated the emails, but would not offer further detail.

“Our staff has had numerous conversations which have independently confirmed for us that in fact these emails are real, they’re authentic,” Jordan told reporters. “We’re confident that that is in fact the case, and that these emails are accurate.”

The authenticity of the emails has been the subject of controversy since The New York Post published its first story on the files. The newspaper received a copy of a hard drive with the emails, photos, and other files from Rudy Giuliani, the personal attorney for President Donald Trump. Giuliani received the hard drive from Robert Costello, his personal attorney. Costello obtained the hard drive from the owner of a computer repair shop in Wilmington, Delaware.

The shop owner, John Paul Mac Isaac, claims Hunter Biden dropped off three laptops in April 2019 and requested the data be recovered from them. Mac Isaac claims Biden never returned to pick up the only laptop which was salvageable. Mac Isaac claims to have turned over the device to the FBI in December last year. Mac Isaac provided Giuliani with a copy of the alleged subpoena the FBI used to obtain the laptop and an alleged receipt he generated for Hunter Biden.

Giuliani declined to provide a copy of the hard drive. The Epoch Times did not independently verify the authenticity of the contents or the veracity of the laptop narrative. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said that Mac Isaac reached out to his committee about the laptop on Sept. 24. Secret Service logs obtained earlier this year by Senate investigators include dates and locations matching those discussed in the alleged emails.

The Post’s stories about the contents of the laptop claim that Hunter Biden capitalized on his father’s position as vice president for personal profit.

The younger Biden served on the board of Ukrainian gas giant Burisma while Joe Biden was the Obama administration’s point man on Ukraine. Joe Biden has bragged about forcing the ouster of Ukraine’s top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, by threatening to withhold $1 billion in U.S. load guarantees to Kiyv. Shokin was at the time investigating Burisma, which was paying Hunter Biden to serve on its board of directors.

The alleged emails suggest that Hunter Biden arranged a meeting in Washington between a top Burisma executive and Joe Biden. The messages also show the same Burisma executive asking Hunter Biden to use his influence to thwart an investigation by Ukrainian authorities.
