A Michigan man has been charged with first-degree murder after the body of his girlfriend was found in his attic.

Jessica White of Troy, Michigan, had been reported missing since April 23rd. Jordan McClanahan, believed to have been her boyfriend, first told authorities that White had gone to Detroit to visit someone, which led multiple searches for her.

Later, McClanahan came to the police station and said that he had found White’s body. Authorities found her body in a roof-lined storage area that could only be accessed through his bedroom.

Neighbors said that McClanahan admitted “his responsibility in this incident,” Fox 2 reports.

A medical examiner said that the cause of death was strangulation.

Neighbors said that they didn’t see signs of anything out of the ordinary, and that McClanahan had walked around in the neighborhood where White died after her death.
