An Eagan, Minnesota resident is upset after recently discovering a petrified frog in her box of Barilla tri-color penne pasta, and is accusing the company of not taking the issue seriously.
Penny Hagen says she was lucky not to accidentally eat the frog.
“I had used one-half of the box and put the other half in the cupboard, then my husband knocked it off the shelf,” she told Fox 9. “The pasta fell directly on the floor with the petrified frog.”
The company sent her a package and Hagen placed the pasta, the box, and the frog inside and mailed it back.
But she says the company has only offered to send her coupons and believes she could get more.
“I think Barilla has not taken this as serious as they should have,” she said, alleging that Barilla representatives think she’s making it up.
Christine Nikutin, consumer relations for the company, said that an internal review and a third-party lab examination showed that “there were no foreign elements in this product while the product was under Barilla control.”
Facebook users didn’t like the news.
“I guess another reason NOT to buy this brand?!?” said one.
“I would pass out. I fear frogs,” added another.
